Stay Uncomfortable
I was thinking yesterday of how annoying it has become to fall into a stereotype lately - one of those “I need to lose weight by eating better and exercising more” people. It wasn’t hard to look around me and realize how easy my life is. I have everything i need in my home, and appearances can deceive even myself, believing that I am doing great and working hard. But nothing...

Inspiration
Being creative requires one particular stimulant - inspiration. I almost prefer the term oxidant as a metaphor, with its bubbly, wild, immediately reactive behaviour. It is what makes us creative.
I have always been creative. I was reminded of this recently as I assisted in my son’s classroom during a clay-modelling hour with an art instructor. Every other table of kids was...

idea writing
I have always enjoyed and despised writing. For one, it makes my hand hurt; moreso since I broke my wrist snowboarding some years ago and have since discovered nerve damage, which is aggravated by the simple task of penmanship.
Still, on an emotional and intellectual level, writing has been at times the perfect drug of choice to appease my addiction of formulating ideas. (Argument being the other...

Religion: The Misguided Child
I just had a phone call from a stranger. A woman clearly in her late 40’s or early 50’s. She was calling on behalf of a church whose name I already forget - Baptist, or Pentecostal maybe - and she was offering to do Bible studies in my home. Would that be something I would be interested in? No. “Ok, thank you.” Good bye.
Good intentions. Probably an immensely better...

New Music 2011
Inevitably the wealth of “Best Of” lists each new year provides some new finds in the music collection. This year I turned to a couple of regulars, KEXP Seattle radio and NPR. And I again found my first purchases of the new year to be embarrassing admissions of omission from my own Best Of 2010 list. These are two records that I should have noticed, particularly from Sigur...

Best-of 2010, Supplemental
Of course, it was only a matter of hours after posting my Best Music of 2010 list in which I discovered a glaring omission. Tragic! So to accompany requests for the *more-than-10* list, along with the *best songs of 2010* list, I must begin with identifying the glaring omission.

Best of 2010
Yes, it is a bit safe. But to be honest, it wasn’t a stellar year of lots of great choices. The top 3 blew me away. The rest were just good. My list of best music is about 15 long in iTunes, but for brevity sake I have reduced this posted list to 10. I will perhaps follow up with a post identifying the extras, and perhaps re-order them into best songs, but for now, here are my 10 best...

My iTunes Shuffle is Cool
My wife recently insisted I buy a Threadless tee that said “I listen to bands that don’t even exist yet”. as a fitting billboard for my general music-snobbery. I am an indie-music snob I guess. It doesn’t help that, when tagged in a Facebook Note challenge to let your itunes shuffle and report honestly the first 15 songs, I was treated to this incredible list. I’m...

Shameless Design website re-design →
I’m happy to announce the re-design of the Shameless Design website. They say a shoemaker’s children have no shoes - which is true of us in the design world. Our own is the last to come. So raise a glass to intentionality. Huzzah.

Dying Young
It doesn’t matter who it is, dying ‘young’ sucks. Suddenly at 56 from a ruptured blood clot sucks. Thats young. When it is someone who held some anchor in your past, however small, it makes you feel something.
News that Dana Key, guitarist and 1/2 of old school Christian rock band Degarmo & Key, died this way this weekend.
In the mid-80’s I was in a vulnerable...
